At Zen-Shin we have a dedicated team of motivated instructors in Birmingham, building a strong foundation of karate techniques in our students setting them up for success in and outside of their karate training. Empowering students in all endeavours of their life.
The pee-wee’s karate programme focuses on improving younger children’s basic motor and listening skills. These skills will help them enter society with a more confident and enthusiastic outlook. They will become better students at school, better listeners at home and more ambitious towards the future. We believe the time between the ages 5 and 6 are the most important years of a child’s development. Our programme will enhance positive development in a fun and
motivating way.

Our children’s karate classes are designed to develop coordination, confidence, self-discipline, respect, self-awareness and social skills while learning martial arts. Our students soon have improved focus, listening skills and concentration during class which also helps them in other areas of their life like in school which boosts achievement throughout their education.
Our fun classes work on creating good listeners and physical all-rounders. At Zen-Shin it is definitely more than just kicking and punching. Character development is part of our programme where we give students opportunities to set goals and challenge themselves.

At Zen-Shin we have different classes for children depending on their age. The Peewees class is for 5-6yrs and Juniors class is for 7-11yrs. Children under 11yrs will be taken under a junior grading system which is relevant to their ability and age.
We host club competitions, and also give our students the opportunity to take part in local and international competitions for those that want to push their karate to the next level. We also have a leadership program for those who want to expand their skill set further.

Transitioning to our dojo?
We welcome practitioners of all levels, including those who have achieved ranks at other karate schools. However, every dojo has it’s own unique curriculum and standards, and we want to ensure that your training aligns with ours.
When joining us, regardless of your prior rank, you will begin by wearing a white belt. This allows us to assess your skills, techniques, and understanding of karate in the context of our training methods.
This evaluation period ensures that the belt you eventually wear in our dojo accurately represents your level within our system. Once the assessment is complete, you’ll be awarded the appropriate belt that reflects your current abilities in alignment with our standards.
Thank you for your understanding as we maintain the integrity and consistency of our program. We look forward to seeing your progress as part of our dojo family!
